TEMPORARY ASSET VARIOGUARD® SYSTEM

M25, J12-15 WIDENING
ASSET BARRIERS UP FOR M25 SAFETY
ASSET VARIOGUARD® temporary barrier was the chosen safety solution for the M25 motorway widening between Junctions 12 and 15. The requirement was for a total of 16,000m of ASSET VARIOGUARD® temporary barrier to be positioned on the north and southbound carriageways. Speed and safety of installation together with minimal traffic disruption were key factors in contractor Balfour Beatty choosing ASSET VARIOGUARD® for this ongoing, design and build motorway contract for the Highways Agency.
Each 12m steel section was delivered on site fitted with new QUICK-JOINT fittings. This enabled 360m to be installed in one direction per hour, using remote control lorry mounted cranes to offload and precisely place each section.
A further enhancement designed by ASSET is for the provision of special emergency access points, which double-up as works access points for Balfour Beatty site operations. These were incorporated into the safety barrier design. Installed every 500m these allow a 56m section to be opened by trained traffic management operatives with ease.
The use of ASSET VARIOGUARD® at this location clearly demonstrates best practice in both traffic management and site safety for widening projects of this type.
