The galvanised steel 4m long sections are delivered to site pre-assembled in 12m lengths for ease of delivery and rapid installation.

With its narrow foot profile ASSET VARIOGUARD® SINGLE SIDED is the ideal application for central reserves and verges where the requirements for set-back and clearance (as specified in IRRRS) cannot be obtained with other barrier systems. It is ideally suited where PVCBs are unacceptable due to the presence of services or other constraints and obstructions such as signs and lighting columns.

ASSET VARIOGUARD® SINGLE SIDED complies with BS EN 1317 at performance level N2, with a dynamic deflection (clearance) of only 300mm.

The required tests for this standard are :-

• TB11 900 kg vehicle

• TB32 1.5 tonne vehicle at 70 mph on a 20º impact

Often used as a permanent central reservation barrier, ASSET VARIOGUARD® SINGLE SIDED is bolted at 4m centres to a concrete base approximately 450mm wide by 300mm deep, (different bolt configurations can be used for bridge decks).

ASSET VARIOGUARD® SINGLE SIDED is listed in the Highways Agency “Approved Road Restraint Systems” with a Working Width class of W2, however in the test report compiled by TRL it is stated “Since the flanged base of the ASSET VARIOGUARD® SINGLE SIDED extends 150mm in from the traffic face the set back distance of the barrier can be reduced by 150mm without adversely affecting the performance of the barrier. As a concequence the Working Width can be reduced by a corresponding distance.” This gives a Working Width of only 575mm i.e, W1.
