Learning Disability Have A Go Event

ASSET International VRS are please to have sponsored the Learning Disability Have A Go Event, which has enabled a team of individuals with learning disabilities to get involved in a range of physical activities during a week commencing the 1st September.

People who have a learning disability are more likely to experience barriers to accessing community leisure activities for a variety of reasons and the Have A Go events help to provide opportunities for this group of people to ‘sample’ activities in supportive environments. The events in September included 2 led walks, the Wolverhampton Marathon, a range of ball sports at Aldersley Leisure Village and a Zumba session, all of which were extremely well attended. They had an excellent turn out and approximately 180 people attended all the events.

This work has been instrumental in generating new ideas with regards to keeping people with learning disabilities fit and healthy.

“I really enjoyed the week when we had all the activities with the walks and Zumba and the sports day at Aldersley. Everyone took part and enjoyed the week. There was a lot of great people taking part in the week and got a lot out of it. We must thank the team who got the week to be a great success and helping the groups who came along. I personally enjoyed helping around and enjoying the event myself. I do hope we could do it again some time as it will get the day centres out to meet people and stay fit. Inviting people to come along and take part is enjoyable.” Greg Silvester

Asset VRS Gain ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001

Asset VRS are pleased to announce their recent accreditations for Environmental Management and Occupational Health and Safety to go alongside the current ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

Ticking all the right boxes Asset VRS run continuous improvement of Integrated Business Systems to ensure complete customer satisfaction as well as business performance.

ISO 14001 covers environmental management and was introduced after the success of the ISO 9000 series of quality standards.
There are many benefits to be gained from implementing an Environmental Management System and achieving third party certification to ISO 14001:2004. It ensures the organisation is aware of, and complies with, all applicable legislation, and demonstrates to stakeholders a commitment to the environment. It also enables the identification of those areas of business with the biggest impact on the environment and enables the implementation programmes to reduce or eliminate those impacts. It is increasingly a requirement for companies wishing to respond to tender opportunities, particularly in the public sector. There is also the potential to reduce business costs both in insurance premiums and by reducing waste.

OHSAS 18001 covers the identification and control of health and safety risks and promotes a safe and healthy working environment by providing a framework that allows an organisation to consistently identify and control its health and safety risks, reduce the potential for accidents, aid legislative compliance and improve overall performance.

OHSAS 18001 is the internationally recognised assessment specification for occupational health and safety management systems. It was developed by a selection of leading trade bodies, international standards and certification bodies to address a gap where no third-party certifiable international standard exists.
